Abby Banks is a multimedia artist working in sculpture, photography, printmaking, film, and publishing. 



Abby's work has been shown in galleries and unconventional spaces in LA, San Francisco, Berlin, London, Tokyo, Yokohama, Burlington VT, Worcester Ma, and New York, most recently in a group show at the Pensacola Museum of Modern Art (2025). Earlier, her work appeared at the UC Davis art museum. She has held residencies at the Soil Factory (2025–26), 309 Punk Project (2024), Stove Works (2023), and Jacob Berendes' infamous CTRI Innovations. Her work has been featured in The New York Times, Spin, Arthur, and many online outlets, and her printed matter has been acquired by the SFMOMA Library (2025) and UC Berkeley Library Special Collections (2026).
Abby co-founded the Tinderbox art collective and spent several years at Thank You For Coming, the conceptual artist-residency restaurant in LA (RIP to both). A former B&W photography instructor at Insight, she leads workshops on subjects such as pinhole photography in the age of tech surveillance and kitchen lithography.

Over a decade in touring bands across the US, UK, and Europe, Abby has directed numerous music videos and made art for more than a dozen records. She regularly collaborates with other artists on books, zines, and multimedia presentations, and produces print publications to accompany her exhibitions.

For over twenty years, she has documented how artists live and work, and the alternative ways people make home, in projects including Punk House (Abrams, NYC) and Reduce Psychic Tension, which spans artists across the EU and UK. Her sculptures grow from personal lexicons (intuitive, personal, social, geographical, visual, and poetic) and are built from ceramics, plaster, wood, original photographs, risograph prints, and found objects.
